Home Care in Manalapan NJ
Family caregivers are very used to worrying about the other people in their lives, but who worries about the family caregivers? The trick is that you have to prioritize yourself in your own life, and these tips can help.
Make the Time for You
When most people look at their calendar to plan the week ahead, they put in appointments first, followed by other events they must attend, and then events they want to attend or tasks they must do by a certain day or time. Often time for themselves ends up one of the last things put in, if it makes it at all onto the schedule. Start looking at time for you as one of your most important appointments and enter it in first. You’ll find that you’re able to still hit all the essentials and you managed to have time for yourself.
Get Exercise in However You Can
Lots of people don’t count exercise unless it’s 40 consecutive minutes on the treadmill or in the weight room. It doesn’t have to be that way. Movement is movement and your body just needs you to move. So try adding exercise wherever and however you can. Park a little bit farther away from the door at the office or at the grocery store. Skip the elevator and take the stairs. Do stretches or lunges during breaks. However you add a few extra movements to your day, they’ll do you some good.
Make Sleep Important
Sleep is another of those events that needs to be added to your calendar before other appointments. However much sleep you’re getting, it’s probably not enough. When you sleep, your body rests and recharges from all the demands of the day. Your brain does a lot of resting then, too, and if you don’t get enough sleep you’re going to find yourself feeling sluggish and unproductive.
Eat Regularly, Even if You Feel Like Skipping Meals
It’s not uncommon for family caregivers to run themselves ragged and feed everyone but themselves. Then, when their bodies can’t stand it anymore, they grab unhealthy options. Keep your body fueled with lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, and lean meat options. You might find yourself eating more at first, but that’s because your body needs the good fuel you’re giving it. As your body gets what it needs, your appetite evens out.
If you need other ideas about how to make yourself a priority in your life, try talking to your loved one’s home care providers. They’re used to helping family caregivers take care of themselves, too.
